When Nigerian born Jerri Jheto was 14 years old, he received a Prophecy: One day my Music would be heard all over the World. He recognized this as Godís promise, and has remained faithful to fulfilling that destiny.
As a young boy living with his grandmother in the Owerri region of Nigeria, Jerri would listen raptly to the drumming and singing during Tribal Meetings at her house. My grandmother raised me, and always supported my Music. She was a very strong woman, a real matriarchî recalls Jheto. Learning from these early musical experiences, he then immersed himself into Nigeriaís vibrant Music Scene, centered in Lagos. Over the next few years, he played and recorded with some of the Legends of African Music: Victor Olaiya, King Sunny Ade, Manu Dibango, Osibisa, and Sonny Okosuns- to name a few.
Jheto came to Los Angeles in the late 80's to record an Afro-Pop album "Apartheid". However, Jerri's passion for different musics led him towards a new musical direction that seamlessly blended AfroBeat with Highlife,
Reggae, Jazz and Pop; creating an innovative and unique Music that featured wicked grooves and uplifting, socially conscious lyrics.
Jerri Jheto released a new album 'Silver and Gold' in 1998 that showcased his new musical direction. The record received critical acclaim, and generated airplay worldwide. One track: 'Highlife Reggae' was featured over closing credits in the movie 'Fakiní Da Funk', and the record charted in both Nigeria and Ghana. He toured West Africa in 1999 to promote the album, and headlined at PANAFEST '99 International Music Festival in Accra, Ghana, as well as playing dates throughout Nigeria and Ghana.
In 2001, Jheto released 'Let The People Decide', and the album received critical acclaim, and worldwide airplay. In support of the record, Jerri Jheto played festivals across the USA and Canada, and toured throughout West Africa in 2003.
In 2006, Jheto recorded a new album "Illegal Alien", that marks a return to his musical roots. Featuring a strong dose of AfroBeat, this is Music made for dancing, while still showcasing Jerri's powerful and uplifting lyrics. This is Music for everyone to enjoy!
Jerri Jheto has now come back from an extended stay in Africa to deliver his new Music to the world with all the energy and passion at his command, continuing to fulfill the prophecy that he received in Africa so long ago.
